The church of cannabis

The “Elevation Ministries” at the The International Church of Cannabis in Denver, Colorado opened on April 20th of this year to mark the unofficially designated “cannabis culture” day, which is particularly prominent in North America.

The members of the church describe themselves as “elevationists” and believe that an “individual’s spiritual journey, and search for meaning is one of self-discovery that can be accelerated and deepened with ritual cannabis use.” The unconventional “church” will allow marijuana smokers to light up indoors. The inside of the church has been decorated by Kenny Scharf at the exterior and by Okuda San Miguel at the interior.

The International Church of Cannabis provides a creative, tongue-in-cheek space for those who are seeking to celebrate the relatively recent legalization of marijuana in the state of Colorado.

The unique church chose the popular day and event to open their doors to the public. The members of this new church call themselves Elevationists and say that the use of cannabis helps elevate people to a higher form of themselves. (Photo by Helen H. Richardson/The Denver Post)
